AI-Native Product Manager
Full-time | Remote (US) or San Diego | Reports to CEO
About Crop Diagnostix
Crop Diagnostix is a venture-backed, high-growth agtech startup using cutting-edge genomics and AI to turn plant signals into actionable insights for agriculture.
Job Overview
As our AI-Native Product Manager, you'll become the primary link between our customers and our engineering team. You'll gather customer input directly from growers, agronomists, and input-company partners, turn it into a prioritized roadmap, and ship against it yourself using AI-assisted development. Agriculture domain knowledge is required.
You'll manage a suite of products:
- Insights (web, iOS, Android): the grower- and partner-facing app for managing fields and viewing diagnostics insights
- Sampling (iOS, Android): the field app for tracking RNA samples en route to the lab
- Admin (web): the internal app for lab, sequencing, agronomy, and platform operations
- Backend and integrations: an event-driven cloud backend connecting agricultural data providers, sequencing platforms, and notification channels
- AI and data access: tooling giving AI agents and dashboards structured access to our diagnostics database
This role is remote, based in the U.S., with relocation offered to our San Diego HQ if interested.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead product discovery across growers, agronomy and input-company partners, and internal lab/ops staff, and translate findings into a prioritized, evidence-based roadmap
- Write clear, actionable specs directly with engineering, no intermediary roles: well-defined user stories, edge cases, acceptance criteria, and reasoning behind priorities
- Make and communicate prioritization trade-offs across the pipeline: grower-facing insights, input insights, lab tooling, backend integrations, and AI/data access
- Own the product feedback loop: usage analytics, support signals, partner feedback, and operational pain points
- Manage integration partnerships with data providers and future partners
- Scale product practices as the technical team grows, coordinating priorities across concurrent workstreams
In your first 30 days, you might:
- Start running product and customer discovery conversations, building toward a weekly cadence
- Shadow the commercial and engineering teams to understand today's handoffs and gaps
- Map the current product roadmap
- Partner with the Founding Software Engineer and ship your first fix or small feature
By 60 days, you might:
- Reach five customer discovery conversations per week
- Meaningfully reduce commercial team time spent scoping product and briefing engineering
- Be shipping features directly using AI-assisted development, in partnership with the Founding Software Engineer
By 90 days, you might:
- Get at least one pilot account live and actively using a new product or major feature
- Fully eliminate CEO and commercial team time spent scoping product and briefing engineering
- Take independent ownership of the roadmap, so prioritization no longer requires the CEO's sign-off
Ways of Working
You'll partner directly with our Founding Software Engineer, who owns the technical stack and works in AI-assisted development tooling. Implementation moves fast once direction is clear; providing that clarity while contributing directly to delivery is core to this role. Written communication is the default: well-structured documents over meetings, decisions recorded with their reasoning. You lead on what to build and why; engineering leads on how and how long.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of product management experience (4+ preferred); demonstrated experience owning a roadmap end to end, from raw customer signal to shipped outcome
- Professional experience in agriculture or ag tech (farming, agronomy, retail, crop inputs, equipment, or similar)
- Experience working on a technical product, ideally B2B or field-operations software
- Hands-on experience shipping code using AI-assisted coding tools
- Experience working directly with an engineering team: PRs, code review, development workflow
- Startup or early-stage company experience strongly preferred
- Authorization to work in the U.S. (no visa sponsorship currently offered)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience delivering mobile products used in field operations
- Experience managing product-side integrations with data providers (ag equipment APIs, data layers)
- Domain exposure to lab or LIMS workflows, or diagnostics
Competencies
- Product Ownership: You build the roadmap yourself; you don't wait to be handed one.
- AI-Native Execution: You use AI tools daily to move from idea to shipped feature, and you own the quality of every AI-assisted change before it merges.
- Technical Fluency: You write requirements clear enough that there's exactly one way to interpret them, and you can read code, data models, and API discussions to engage credibly with engineering.
- Customer-First Discovery: You want to be on the phone with growers, agronomists, and partners regularly, not occasionally.
- Independent Judgment: You decide what ships next across competing priorities without escalating every call.
- Cross-Functional Fluency: You communicate naturally across agronomy, commercial, science, engineering, and lab/ops.
Why Crop Diagnostix
- Direct, high-leverage ownership: your specs ship in days, not quarters, working one-on-one with the CEO and Founding Software Engineer, no layers in between
- Meaningful equity at an early stage, with the latitude that comes from being the first person to own this function
- Proprietary science: the first platform using RNA to detect crop stress weeks before symptoms appear, built on data, models, and IP no one else has
- Collaborate with a world-class team of experts across agriculture, biotech, and AI.
